Deep violet, metallics, double denim: fashion gets colour and shine

Three signals from the fairs and runways: fabrics are back in colour, spring 2027 shines, and denim goes head to toe.

At the end of October fashion looks two ways: at the autumn-winter 2027/28 fabrics already seen at the fairs, and at the spring 2027 runways. One thread runs through both: more colour, more material, more character.

Violet moves into fabrics

At Première Vision in Paris (1–3 September), the fabrics for autumn-winter 2027/28 carried a clear message: colour and expression are back. According to FashionUnited, deep violet leads the palette, joined by plums, dusty pinks, mauves and tinted off-blacks.

For buyers, the useful detail is what replaces black: plum and deep red step in, while neutrals shift. Grey drifts towards blue-grey, khaki towards taupe. The selection is silkier than expected, with satin, crushed velvet and wool blends.

Technology is felt, not shown. In city suitings, membranes and finishes sit inside a classic cloth, so a jacket looks like a suit and performs like technical wear. And fine, light, temperature-regulating wool is pitched as an answer to all-synthetic materials.

Paris goes for gold

On the Paris runways for spring 2027, minimalism gives way to glamour. FashionUnited describes a season of gold and silver, with gold in front: metallic leather, crinkled or matelassé cotton, brocade, metal-thread lace, lamé and sequins.

Metallic is not just for evening. It shows up on coats, trenches, anoraks and bombers, often oversized, and on skirts and dresses of every cut. It is layered over sheer blouses or lace and grounded by a black, white or nude base.

For boutiques the reading is practical: metallic works as a finish applied to familiar shapes rather than a passing fad.

Denim goes head to toe

The third signal is more everyday. According to FashionUnited, citing T-Fashion, denim made up an average of 7 percent of looks on the spring 2027 runways. And it is no longer a single piece: it is a set, jacket and skirt, top and trousers, tone on tone.

Washes run from dark indigo to white, via mid-blue and light washes. Shapes vary: cropped jackets, vests, straight, wide or slim legs, pencil and long skirts with slits.

The reason is commercial, and the source says so: a matching set shows buyers and store staff how pieces sell together.
